Glycolic Acid: Benefits, Uses & How to Apply

What is glycolic acid?

Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates the surface of the skin, dissolving the bonds between dull, dead cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin underneath. Floreva uses it at 7% in our Glycolic Acid Serum.

What does it do for your skin?

  • Smooths rough texture and refines the skin surface
  • Brightens a dull complexion and supports a healthy glow
  • Helps unclog pores and soften the look of uneven tone
  • Clears away dead surface cells, helping serums and moisturisers sink in more easily

How to use it

Use at night, starting 2 to 3 times a week and building up as your skin adjusts. Always follow with moisturiser, and wear SPF 50+ the next morning, because exfoliating acids make skin more sun-sensitive.

Common questions

How often should I use glycolic acid?

Start 2 to 3 nights a week and increase gradually. More is not better; consistency at a comfortable frequency wins.

Do I need sunscreen with glycolic acid?

Yes, always. AHAs make skin more sensitive to UV, an effect that lasts while you use them and for about a week after you stop. Daily broad-spectrum SPF (we recommend SPF 50+) is essential.

Is 7% glycolic acid good for beginners?

Yes. At 7% it is effective yet approachable, exfoliating the upper skin layers without the downtime of a peel.
